Hello! Thanks so much for putting our easter egg hunt on your blog! However, I wanted to point out one thing...the hunt does not last for one hour! It lasts only a few minutes so it is important to be on time! There are activities afterwards though.

If the straight razor is badly rusted you may want to clean it up by using a grinder and taking the rust off that way. you could sharpen the blade at the same time unless ther is still some cleaning to do then wait and sharpen the blade at a later time to save your fingers and hand from cuts while you are handling it.

If the blade you find is an old vintage one it is probably made of the old carbon steel and therefore susceptible to rust and you will have to basically cure it and keep it oiled so it does not rust while in storage. A well cared for blade should last a life time. A good sterol oil should do the trick to keep your straight blade from rusting.

You might just want to try out your straight razor once or twice to see what kind of a shave that it gives. If the blade has been sharpened then go ahead and lather up. Be careful of the angle you use right at first and do not use a lot of pressure if this is the first time you have shaved with a straight razor. You do not want razor burn.

Do not use the razor unless it has been well cleaned, sharpened then honed to a nice, smooth edge. You also do not want to cut yourself. The best way to use a straight razor is to use short strokes until you get a good feel for the razor then you can graduate to using longer strokes. The angle you use the blade is as important as the strokes you use.

Hold the blade at about a 30 degree angle from your face and always shave in the direction that the hair grows. Take care around your chin and jaw. These are the places on your face most susceptible to nicks and cuts. So just go slowly. Once you buy straight razor all it takes is some practice before you perfect your technique.

My friend and I have a laundry service we started a few years ago. We found that white vinegar is a great natural fabric softner. If you put 3/4 cup into the rinse cycle it softens clothes, saves money, is eco-friendly, and helps keep your washing machince clean.
